Strawberries in 10 words

The second article in my 10-word series was about strawberries, and I would like to thank Rico sensei for her help with the English in Use section. The newspaper decided to 'save space' and drop the English version I wrote. So, little learners out there, you are challenged once again to learn by translation. Sorry about that - not my idea at all!

Anyway, strawberries are about the only thing my son will eat when he is sick - which has been an almost constant situation for him since last October. Right now he is on his second bout of flu (so the Tamiflu injections we got in the autumn were a waste of time?) and I am wondering if there is a "C" variety (he has had "A" & "B")?

What is your favourite soft fruit? I think I'd have to choose mine in this order:
1. Blackberries
2. Raspberries
3. Black currants
4. Gooseberries
5. Red currants

Jim's new newspaper article - every Saturday

After writing extensively (in 50 words!) about the places and objects mentioned in Nagano's prefectural song for the last three months, I have now been asked to describe local produce and products....in 10 word 'sentences'.

This is quite a challenge, to say the least! The language I use has to be 'simple', accessible to elementary or JHS children (do they read the Saturday papers?!) and be interesting. Bit tricky achieving this in 10 words, but I hope the puzzle and the 'English in Use' information is useful. I don't want to patronise my readers - tell me what you think with sugeestions for improvements please!

See me in the Shinmai - every Saturday

Did anybody notice my debut as a 'writer' for the Shinmai newspaper? No, me neither!

I was asked to contribute no more than 50 words about topics relating to Nagano. The text is aimed at JHS age kids - so it has to be simple but interesting. It has to be accurate, and suitable for teachers to use in class.

I would like to be a bit creative in this adventure, but  there is no wriggle space whatsoever, and there is a lot of to & fro with the editors & translators...and they want to cut it back to 40 words already! Loose the stupid graphics or something instead!
