8.Do you prefer reading several short stories or one longer one? Why/why not

I prefer to read one longer story because I cannot remember so many characters. On several stories there are so many characters and they are named in English. It is very difficult for me to remember all characters. After reading it is not very good to do a worksheet. I have to do a worksheet! I like a story wanted to read next line earlier as a sort of mystery story.

The Battle of Newton Road

8. What happens in the story? In which month? Write about the battle.

March: Public meeting about the new road, Mr Wood explained the civil plan.

June: The people of Newton Road stayed there. Mr Wood was waiting.

August: Starting the battle. Mr Wood stops electricity, gas and water. Sally informed to a newspaper man about the battle. The newspaper inform the battle with photo.

September: Stephen and Catherine talked to Mr Wood. The people can have electricity, gas and water. They had a meeting at the school. Mr Wood proposed new plan. The battle was finished.

Saturday night party

Must be something about the time of year - another round of beers and food with classmates and colleagues!

Tonight a tried and trusted Chinese restaurant in town, with my NHK brigade. I managed to have a good chat with Takeshi and Chisato this evening, and we schemed to visit NZ soon. Masa met Tana, and managed not to ask her anything about South Africa in English - a shame as he is going there in March. This evening we were probably saying goodbye to Akane again, who has to move back to Kofu. We will miss you, so make sure you come back for the summer BBq at least?

We were delightfully served by a top secret waitress, who usually shouts 'hello' at me, but was a bit quieter tonight - think she was worried I'd dob her in!

A fun night out again, thank you guys - cold rainy walk home though!

7. Lisa wanted to learn English at a school, but can she learn English at work too? What do you think?

She wanted to be a teacher. She cannot stay in London for long time. Because she had to return her home for her parents. I feel she was not poor, she can learn English without any works, so she should not work. She should hardly learn English for short term. If she can be a English teacher, I think she will forget any other jobs (and Michael).

What do you think Ken does after the end of the story?

I think he didn't work for a few years, but some years after he begun to take some photos of nature or something. He opened his photo studio, because he had to make a money for their life, but he never wanted to take a photo of celebrities for getting big money. They enjoyed quiet life for long time in the country.

Q7.Imaging you were able to have a 'helper'. What would you want him/her to do?


I would like to have a helper same as me. I ask him to do my job. When there are not much job, I don't work. But if he is busy, I help him. I guess there are too much job, so I almost work with him. We think we have to ask another helper.
