Chapter 15 Happy End

Since then, 1 year had passed. Munro was smiling to Sirpa Lappalainen, and Sirpa wore a wedding dress because today was their wedding ceremony.

Munro gave over the work of spy since the incident had finished. And now, they lived together in Finland and worked on a farm happily.

After the ceremony, they would go Japan on their honeymoon trip. And they would go to famous hot spring, for example Beppu, Kusatsu, Shirahone and so on. Of course , they would not take a sauna. Have a good honeymoon trip Munro and Sirpa and have a happy new life.

2.Do you think "The Lahti File" describes the real work of a spy?

No, I don't think so.
There are three reasons I think.

First, trigger of this story is very nonsense. Although there are many many same thing all over the world, Naylor think that there are some relationships with these news. This is a very unreal thing, I think.

Next, if Munro is a real spy, he doesn't invite unknown person to his room (But it is a usual story in "007" ;-) ).

Then, he doesn't have any arms. It is believable that if someone find arms, there are many questions to answer. But there is necessity of having minimum arms with spying, I think.

Anyway, a hero of the story must have some stupid points to make the story funny.

Within High Fences

Contrary to the impression of the title, this story was a love story. I thought that this books was a crime story.

Q1:Which character(s) did you like best and least in Behind High Fences?

The character who I like best is Harriet. I think she is a real friend of Nancy. She helped Nancy in any important situation, and she always stood by Nancy. An impressive episode is the last one. Harriet drove Nancy to George's flat, but she didn't agree for meeting George with Nancy. She had not only kindness but also severity.

On the other hand, the character who I dislike worst is Tom, of cause. He was a racist and discriminated against women. And also he was fool. It was natural that Nancy left from him. Maybe he didn't love Nancy from his heart. Maybe he needed only a girlfriend, not Nancy. It is necessary to take care not becoming of me like Tom.

8 Lisa is famous and her photo is in a newspaper. Write about her for the same newspaper.

She came to learn English in London. To become a teacher. But, she has mistaken a studio for a school. The photographer does not know is not her in the model.But, the photographer continued taking a photograph. Looked for the model of the advertisement at that time. And her photograph caught eye. She became a model and became famous.

The Lady in White

When I saw the picture on the front cover this book, I have felt fear and horrors. And it was true. I think this cover picture is the best match to this story.　Also I guess the title “The Lady in White” base on “White Lady”. After reading Q1: Which chapter do you remember most clearly from The Lady in White? Why?

What remembered me most clearly was Chapter 3, The Lady in White. While John was listening the story of a hitch-hiker in the cassette tape, I could image the transformation of his feeling. I thought it was very frightening when he found it was the same as his story. If I was John, I would be impatience to listen the cassette. (*1)

The Fruitcake Special and other stories

I like such kind of stories which is a fiction and an entertainment.

After reading….Q1. Which of the five stories did you enjoy most? Write an article for the classroom notice board explaining why you like the story.

I like the first one, “The Fruitcake Special”. Can you image a perfume which makes men to fall in live with a woman who put on the perfume? It is a dream of people want. No? And I hope a perfume for men, which works opposite that women fall in live with men. If I have it …

And I imaged the scene after Anna threw everything in the bottle on the dress of the girlfriend. What happened on David? It was very interesting.

A Matter of Chance

I read “A Matter of Chance”. At first, I thought this book was a love story, but it was an action. When I finished reading the book, I was sad and my mind was in the dark.

Q1; After reading A Matter of Chance, how important do you think change has been in your life?

I think a Chance is very important for every one’s life because a chance could change our life. For instance, people get married because of “A Chance” when and where they met somehow.

This book is interesting: A man who had everything - good looks, momey, a beatiful house, a girlfriend was dead. Why ? The reason is the book's title.

We don't live without anybody else. But the other people have their own circumstances.

He was dead, because he was so gentel.

TWO LIVES

Keigo, thank you for your information about using CD. I tried to listening to the CD while I was reading. It was a good pacemaker for me. I couldn't stop reading, even if I didn't understand a sentence exactly.
But... it was hard to me :-P

After reading No4. "What was life like for young people in Wales in 1945?"

The life for young people in Wales in 1945 was not happy. They either worked underground at the village's coal mine for eight hours a day, five days a week, or they didn't work at all. That was very dangerous and hard life, or very boring life. That was all. But it was better than being soldier and fighting foreign country. This was the most dangerous and meaningless life, I think.

At a weekend, young people sometime went to dancing or watching a film. This was their only pleasure, I think.

Hi, homework season has started again!!

First of all, I'd like to give you a kind of tips. As you know, audio CD is attached to the book, this time. So I tried listening to the CD while reading the book. I found that was very comfortable and very helpful for me to read the book faster. I'd recommend you do it.

[Q(2)] Think about Monika. What kind of clothes does she wear? What music and films does she like? Where does she go on holiday? What are her favourite foods?

I imagine she is slim and good figure woman. She usually wears suits with tight skirt and white shirt while working, and wears slim jeans and sweater or jacket in her private time.

She listens to classics to calm down her mind. Her favourite movie is adventure movies and, of course, spy movie like "James Bond" or "Mission impossible".

In her holiday, she goes shopping to buy a stylish clothes as well as most of women like, and has a break at tasteful cafe. She has a sweet tooth.

Jojo's Story

Jojo was a sheltered child until the men who have crossed the river attacked Jojo's village. Jojo's family and all people of the village were killed by the men, so Jojo had to go care house. In the care house, Jojo met many chile and a good teacher, but he get out from the care house to fight with his brother's friend.

I don't understand this story clearly, but I imagine this is a story connected civil war and how to be born a child soldier. Jojo asked himself why his family and friends are killed, and his thinking addled.

After leading this book, I feel groomy.

THE DOUBLE BASS MYSTERY

This is mystery that Orchestra Manager was killed someone. Its heroine is Penny Wade. She was a double bass player.

She was stolen her double bass. The double bass was related to this murder.
At this end of story, her double bass was return to her and I think she got new boyfriend who is inspector.

Do you think The Double Bass Mystery is a good title? Can you think of any other good titles?

Yes, I do. This is interesting and clear. The title is good name. Because, I think that this story was about a couple of parson and double bass players.

Although, they are player with a orchestra, they spend wrong life. Simon and Penny. They loved each other.

Simon is going to be in prison for a long time. Penny is going to play in orchestra with her double base.

How I Met Myself

Q.4 Would this story work best as a play or a film?

Yes! I think pictures will express so much presence effectively rather than a novel. Some scenes, for example, a man meets other person who has the same face, the Taylor's investigation, the event what happened on '3rd' 18 January, will make us feel we are really there.

I would like M.Night Shyamalan to direct the film. He will take us to the world of the story as like as his other films, 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Unbreakable'.

By the way, I wonder why a day of the week goes backward year by year. The 18 January was Monday at first year. The day of second year was Sunday and the day of third year was Saturday. This is absolutely in reverse order to real. Perhaps all of the story was a dream of Taylor. When he woke up, he told his dream to Andrea and Kati. It was 18 January morning. This is an answer of Q.7 "Write an extra chapter called ‘18 January again!’", as well.

Circle Games

I read this book. I found common word with five stories on the book. It is "wheel".

The first story is "Quick Man Tan". He hepled a man who had pointed a knife on his face just like a wheel.

The second story is "The Wheel on the Wall". It is an old wooden wheel sits on English pub.

The third story is "Special Clay". Americans young man made the wheel.

The fourth story is "The Trishaw Man", He dorve people around on a three-wheeled trishaw bicycle.

The fifth story is "Beautiful Thing" that is the strange wheel thing. But, I didn't understand connectiron their stories means and the book's title.

The Big Picture

What do you think Ken does after the end of the story?

I think he didn't work for a few years, but some years after he begun to take some photos of nature or something. He opened his photo studio, because he had to make a money for their life, but he never wanted to take a photo of celebrities for getting big money. They enjoyed quiet life for long time in the country.

Logan's Choice

I enjoyed the Logan's choice. This story is more interesting than another stories for me.

Logan is a very smart and cool woman. Grant is very good partner for her. They help and support each other well and investigate the murder case skillfully. Logan's let the murder be caught in a trap and the murder can't get away at all by her choice.

I think Logan's Choice is a good title. I make up another title "Money terminate heart". Alex lost his life and wife' love instead of money. Money lose Ross's mind. Ross lose his mind like Alex too. I understand they want more than money they have , because I hope too if it is possible.

I am very happy when I get on very well with my family or enjoy my taste. I don't need much money. I think that much money cannot make us happy, but warm heart can do it.

Jojo's story

Jojo was a unhappy boy who was ten years old. One day everyone were killed without only him in his village. He lost his family that loved him deeply by the miserable accident.

He couldn't understand everything and was full of sadness in his small
heart. A journalist and UN soldiers helped him and took him to children house. He was happy with many friends and kindly staff in there.

I hoped that he live peaceful life without war weapon but he had the gun. He
wanted to revenge himself on his family's death.

Tales of the Supernatural

After reading 6. Which story was your favourite? Why?

My favourite story in this book is The Yew Trees. Unfortunately, Zoe was dead, however it eventually came to an end happily. And it says in the story, I think, that we have to build a society that can coexist with nature.

After reading: Q1　Who do you like most? Teresa or Frank? Why?

I like Teresa, because Teresa love Frank and she can understand him. She is a supple mind.

This story first, she was angry with Frank. He is a writer, but he never finish his books. He sometims sleeps all morning, sometims watches television all afternoon. So she think his life is bad to him. She hope he get a new job, but she changed after listened his dream story and his mind. She well understand of hin and support him.

I like Teresa. She is a bright wife.
