Film reviews - something suitable for adults and for teens

Mission: Impossible (film)

Mission Impossible and Robots are both highly enjoyable movies. However, they appeal to different audiences.

Mission Impossible is an exciting action-packed spy movie. This movie is about a spy called Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), who tries to find the mole that killed his team mates on a mission. The plot is very intriguing and there is an unpredictable and unexpected ending, so you will not have time to even blink throughout the whole film. The acting is superb. The lead actor, Tom Cruise, gives a breath-taking performance, especially when he sneaks into a room where you can’t make a single noise or even touch the ground. The background music is also good, which makes you excited and fits to the movie.

Robots is an animated film, which was created  by Chrise Wedge, who also created Ice Age, and William Joyce. It is a story about a world of robots. The main character, Rodney Copperbottom, was born in an ordinary family. Rodney had a longing for Bigweld, a genius inventor, so he invents a robot. One day he decides to go to Robot City, where Bigweld is, so that he could show his invention and make his father proud. But, when he arrives at Robot City, he notices that the city has changed from what it had looked like on TV when he was at home. Rodney tries to change this world with friends he met in Robot City. This film tells us that if we try, there is nothing that we couldn’t change. This film also contains humour and love. The computer graphics are outstanding and the world is very imaginative.

Mission Impossible is for adults because it has some violence and killing. On the other hand, Robots is for kids, but I think adults can also enjoy it.

Postcard from... Guam (they're like London buses!)

Dear Jim,

As you know, I am now in Guam. It is very hot here, compared to Matsumoto, but I'm getting used to to it. I might not be able to survive in Matsumoto's freezing climate.

Today I went wake boarding. The wind felt very good. The sea water was so clear that you could see the bottom.

See you soon.

SWANS

ABOUT SWANS
Let me tell you about swans. Swans are big white birds, which are the heaviest among
flying birds. They have a long neck, a yellow beak and black feet. These elegant birds
live in rivers and ponds, but only when it is cold, so they migrate when summer comes.
They are usually in pairs but fly as a flock when migrating.

HOW TO OBSERVE SWANS
It seems that swans are hard to observe, but actually it’s quite easy. If you want to see one in Matsumoto,
go to Matsumoto Castle in winter. Walk around the castle and you will see some beautiful swans. Swans look calm, but you shouldn’t go too close to one because they can be very aggressive, especially swans which are raising a child. If you be careful about this, you will be able to have a fantastic time watching this fascinating animal.

An endangered animal - the Lion

Photograph by Chris Johns

Lions have been celebrated throughout history for their courage and strength. Lions are the second largest living cats after the tiger. Lions can grow up to 2m and can weigh up to 191kg. Lions are the only cats which live in a group which are called prides. Male lions boast manes which are long hair around their head. Male lions protect their prides. Female lions are the pride’s primary hunter. They often work together to prey because many of the animals are faster than lions.

Lions once roamed most of Africa and parts of Asia and Europe. Today they are found only in parts of
sub-Saharan Africa, except for one very small population of Asian lions that survives in India's Gir Forest.

Lions are strong animals but why are they endangered? There are two reasons. Firstly humans kill them. There are different purposes to kill them for example protecting livestock, for flesh and skin and for having fun hunting. Secondly the lion’s habitats are getting destroyed by humans for wood, fuel and land.

I think we need to know more about the endangered animals and always think about them before we do something.
