Postcard from - Fukui Castle

 For once, a really disappointing castle site. Within 5 minutes' walk of the station but overwhelmed...

It's impossible to enjoy this location without the shadow of the dreary prefectural offices looming over you. Within the inner walls, and almost on top of the main bailey. The walls have been left to topple, no doubt earthquake damage but also badly neglected/not reinforced - feature of these kinds of walls is the need for weight on top to maintain their structural integrity.

The (rare) covered bridge has been restored - and is the only recognisable structure. 

The moat IS being repaired, but for that project to have any meaning, the concrete office blocks within have to go.

I get the feeling the castle site here is an inconvenience, which the trams have to go around. There's a nice park over the moat...this could be so much better if opened up and treated with some respect.
