This is housewives story in 1870s in New York society. People believe that men have free of love and women have to keep her faithful before mariage. I think the worst person in this story is Newland. If he broke his engagement when he was in love with Ellen, everyone would be happier than the end of this story. Although May had children and lived as she expected, she would have been felt lonely whenever she was with her husband. I think the most important thing for love is to be honest for their own feeling.posted for Tomoko
