Luna's monster scrapbook

Cute and cuddly or stuff of nightmares?
Eeek! It's Friday the 13th and there's something horribly frighting I have to show you all! My students have been busy making a monster scrapbook, terrifying enough to give even the most composed of souls the creeps!
We began with a body as a starting point, and used a trusty die to determine how many of each body part we would add to our crazy creations. 6 heads with 1 eye, 4 feet with 4 toes, you name it, we had it!
For the more advanced students, there was an additional twist where the activity was a dictation exercise, pairing an adjective (short, big, thin etc) with each body part.
Leave us a comment with which monster you think has the most resemblance to either Damian or Jim!

After reading The Murders in the Rue Morgue - who's your favourite author?

Edgar Allan Poe is a famous author of this genre - mystery & horror.

Write about your favourite author

I love Miyuki Miyabe who is a Japanese famous author of mystery. I read almost all her book as it was very interesting, not let me bored during reading and she describe normal person in normal life.
My recommendation is "Kasha" which means fired vehicle. A detective was asked to find a woman who is the fiancĂ©e of his relative. Her name is Shoko and she ran away with her decision. While he investigates her deeply, he found “Shoko” does not exist actually and she is another woman with the complicated back ground…

I like it because the fact is disclosed slowly and deeply with the natural story. The detective just tried to find out one ordinal person at first, but he found a big and deep back ground of her. These pieces of story is unimaginable and I enjoy the gap of the story and my imagine of her book.

Seven Stories of Mystery and Horror

This book has following seven stories of mystery and horror, written by Edgar Allan Poe.

1. THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, a prisoner wakes up to find himself in a dark cell with a deep pit.
2. THE GOLD BUG, a golden insect leads to an incredible discovery.
3. THE FACTS IN THE CASE OF MR VALDEMAR, a patient is hypnotised minutes before he dies. Is he really died?
4. THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, a man visits an old friend and finds himself in a house full of horrors.
5. DOWN IN THE MAELSTROM, a sailor describes a terrifying trip through the maelstrom.
6. THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, prince Prospero has a party in his castle. But no one can scape the red death-not even a prince.
7. THE OBLONG BOX, a traveller boards a ship to New York. What does he carry in the oblong box?

I felt human's death and fear from every stories, especially THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM and THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER. Only THE GOLD BUG is a story of adventure and solution of a riddle, that's why it is the most favorite one in this book.

Unquiet Graves

This story is horror and mystery.

Four friends - Frankie, Regan, Jack, Tom - are members of their school's archeology club. They helped a 'dig' in an archeological site on their holiday. Frankie became strange since she slided down into a big black hole and got half broken coin. Afterwards, they heard this village sad story from archeologist Leo. To solve the mystery of this village, they moved into action.

The dead people aren't necessarily always restfully asleep. Sometimes, the dead people spirits might haunt this world when commit an offense during the lifetime and can't seek a place where they can live in peace.

Unquiet Graves

This is a horror story.

Frankie, Regan, Tom and Jack, - these girls and boys are members of their school's archeology club. They were in an archeological site on their half term holiday.
An archeologist Leo told them Eleanor's a sad story. After that, Flankie has met many strange things. She was possessed by something evil.
This evil was a ghost of Eleanor's lover, Todd. He lead Frankie, then made understand her the truth of Eleanor's death. These lovers has been unhappy two hundred years, but these two lovers were dead finally at peace, by a help of Frankie.

However, it was a bit boring story for me.

Seven Stories of Mystery and Horror.

I don’t like horror stories. But this book is interested. I was able to read easily a little, because each story was very short.

My favorite story is “The Gold Bug”. It’s Mastery. I was not able to understand story when I saw this title. The man solved the code that found treasure of Captain Kid’s.

I researched the code and the author. Because I think that the code is very real.
Edgar was very well informed about the code. Before two years writing this book, He challenged solving to the code that these were given by his reader.
The imagination exists together to the fact in this story. I was able to read this book happily. I think that this story is an adventure.

Seven Stories of Mystery and Horror

Which was your favourite story? Why did you like it the best?

My favourite story was THE OBLONG BOX, because I felt this story was sad. I don't like much horror. I'm weak the terrible story but this story wasn't terrible story.

The storyteller met Cornelius of an old friend during a trip on a ship. Cornelius carried the oblong box to the ship. One day the ship sets by a storm. The storyteller took refuge in a life-boat. Cornelius was going to board a life-boat with the oblong box. At that time, "Is your box more important than your life?" The storyteller shouted to Cornelius."Yes! Yes! Yes!" Cornelius shouted. The box and Cornelius fell into the sea.

The box and Cornelius did not come up again. After that, I read a story and knew the contents of the box and became sad. This story is slightly sad and is good.

Unquiet Graves

I resd "Unquiet Graves". This story isn't horrer story. I felt mystery story. (= horrer?)

After reading:
You are going for a walk in a frightening place. Write a discription of your walk.

I didn't go to a frightening place. Because I don't like a frightening place.
But my family have the graveyard. That is a old place. (I don't know how long.)

My family graveyard is on the back side of the shrine. There isn't house around the graveyard and shring. It very quiet place.
There is only narrow road from shrine to graveyard.
My family graveyard have abaut 15 grave. My grandfather and grandmather grave is there.
I go to there once of a year.
I think graveyard isn't a frightening place, it's importance (precious?) place.
