It has been 10 days since I came here in Bologna. Taking Italian lesson is not easy, but I am enjoying life here. I found good small restaurants and a lovely bakery, market. Basically Italian people are nice, cheerful and very kind. After staying few more days, I am going to travel to Puglia southern part of Italy.

It has been four weeks since I came here in Salerno, South Italy.

Today I finished the school. I had really precious time. I have met many nice and lovely poeple and enjoyed a lot. I can't tell you all! I'm going to travel around from tomorrow...

A Digital Postcard from Salerno, Italy

Hi everybody!

It’s been 2 weeks and 4 days since I came here in Salerno, Italy! However I feel that more than 1 month I am living here. I am enjoying the school life and short trips every day, even though I don’t understand well what people say in Italian and can’t speak Italian almost nothing!! 

It is still very warm here in southern Italy. People still enjoy swimming in the Amalfi coast.
I will attach the photos, the view of the Salerno and the school and me and so on.

Dear Luna Friends & Teachers!

I'm having a wonderful time in Italy. After appreciated marvelous Renaissance arts in Firenze, visited small charming villages in Tuscany, enjoyed fantastic wine, especially in Montepulciano.
Today I am going to the Riviera. I'm expecting see the lovely small villages 'Cinque Terre'.

Current Magazine - Nujeen Mustafa

Inspired by reading a snippet of Nujeen Mustafas's 'Nujeen: One Girl's Incredible Journey from War-Torn Syria in a Wheelchair' in Mary Glasgow's Current magazine, some students wrote about the toughest journeys they've experienced in their lives.


As a matter of fact, I've never had so tough journey in my life. I was born in a peaceful country and
raised up with a nice family in a middle class, and had never desired to have a tough journey.

When I go travel, it was always well planned getting rid of risks. but in 2004, when I went to Europe alone was an exception. My daughter was already in Rome, so I had to go to Rome by myself. It was the first time for me to go to Europe. I couldn't understand Italian at all, so I learned Italian a little.

In the airplane I chose the seat near the aisle. Next to me were two big young Korean guys. They drank alcohol so often, so they went to the toilet frequently. It bothered me. The cabin attendant recognized the situation. At the end of the flight, she gave me a small present of JAL with an apology.

From the airport to Telmine station, I took a train. It was already night, the train was crowded. I could see many kinds of people, looked like from Africa, the Middle East, Asia or America, talking their own language.

At Telmine station, I didn;t know the direction when I saw the policemen. I wanted to ask them the way to my hotel, but they were so big I just hesitated to do it. I checked the name of the road, and began to walk/ But the area where my hotel looked very dangerous. On the dirty road, people were sitting with blank looks.

Finally, I got to the hotel. When I was checking in, there was a phone call from my daughter. She sad she wanted to be with her friend one more day. So, I had to be at the hotel alone. I couldn't sleep all night because of the noise and the neon light from outside.

A postcard to my friend

Dear Hakeu,

How are you?

I'm enjoying my summer vacation in Napori.

I arrived two days ago,and I'm staying in a cheap hotel near the station.

Yesterday, I went to see the castle Nuovo, and in the evening I visted the hill

Posillipo to see the night view.

At the moment, I'm having lunch in a pizzeria which has some tables on the street. Outside is quite hot. But, pizza margherita is excellent, big and cheap!

And I can feel the history and life of the local people.

My favourite area is the market.

There are many grocery shops. And there is vigor in many people.

I usually buy some wine in the market and enjoy it while planning the next day at the hotel.

The collections of Trattoria Gallery Matsumoto

Trattoria Gallery Matsumoto is a unique restaurant and gallery. It is near Sensai bridge, in the first floor of Matsumoto city Clock Museum building. The restaurant gallery marks its 2^nd anniversary on 15^th in Dec. The gallery is displaying a collection of art works. There are mostly illustrations of children’s books. All of them are original works. One of the illustrators is a Mongolian or Italian, also Japanese popular illustrator. 

After reading Mystery at Lion Rock - my trip to France & Italy

Write about a (school) trip...

I went to Italy and France with my friends after the graduation from the university in 2005. It was good for me to have two weeks trip with the cheap price as we were still students.
We visited a lot of famous and beautiful buildings like church and museums.

In Italy, we were very excited to go around the locations of Roman Holiday like Spanish Square, The mouth of Truth and Trevi Fountain. We enjoyed doing the same action as the movie.

In France, the most impressive one was the Louvre. I was not very familiar with the arts, but there were many arts that I learned in the text book. Especially, I was moved to see Mona Lisa. It was much smaller than expected, and there were many people around the art, but I felt the great presence from the drawing.

I was also looking forward to seeing the Mont-Saint-Michel and its Bay, but it was cloudy, so I hope that I can see it in sunny day next time.

We also enjoyed eating many delicious pizza and sweets in those countries. I can eat most of them even if I am in Japan, but I felt they were special when I had in Italy and France.

Hello (NHK) guys,

It's been 5 days since I arrived at Rome. After spending great days in this romantic city, I visited Napoli. People say Napoli is a dirty, dangerous city. A woman I met at a bus stop, lives in in Napoli, warned me that many thieves aim at your things, be very careful. However, I enjoyed this exciting, noisy, casual city. Now I am going north by car from Rome.

Jim & NHK students, I'm enjoyiing my holiday in Italy. The weather is perfect, the food is delicious & the people are so friendly. Luckly, I entered the "Gratta Azzurra". How blue the sea is! I visited Amalfitana today. How beautiful the coastline is!! I'm staying in Alberobello tonight.

Can you imagine how I am excited?

Milano is one of the trendiest cities in the world and all the people I can see are like fashion  models. I was taken my breath away in front of the "Duomo".

Postcard from Sicily, Italy

In January, I traveled to Sicily in Italy. My husband and our friends and I drove around in the characteristic island for 10days. Sicily is located in the center of the Mediterranean, so the valuable island has been controlled by various nationalities through the ages. Sicily has been influenced by Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arabian and Norman cultures. Therefore we are able to see the particularly mixed culture in Sicily now. In Agrigento, ancient Greek remains greeted us with full moon light and twinkling stars. It was incredibly mystic scenery. Also, I was impressed by the amazing seaside town view from the top of a cliff in Cefalu. My dream came true in Taormina, one of the popular resorts in Europe. It was a fantastic dream staying “San Domenico Palace Hotel” which is well-known as a shot point in the French movie “Gran Blue”. Besides, I was interested in the baroque architecture which I saw in Ragusa, Noto. For me, traveling in Sicily is like time travel into an older age. Sicilian people do not look friendly, but they are warm and kind. They must be just shy. When I was in trouble, the Sicilian people helped me affectionately.

I enjoyed this book very much. I have taken much time to finish reading it. I'll get short to complete reading the next book. I'd like to write about the followings. Would you like to live and work in a foreign country, like Paul and Jacky ? Why ? Why not ?


Yes, I'd like to. I was wondering if I could live one of western countries for the the future. If possible, it would be the place where is moderate climate. Also I want to work in a foreign country at least once in my life. I think it make me more interesting.

Postcard from Portofino (Italy)

Hello Sayuri, Luna & NHK guys!!
It is the third day of my trip! I am at Santa Margherita-Ligure in Italy, a beautiful seaside resort near Genoa. I am writing this card on the terrace of the fantastic hotel. I can see the bright sea, birds are singing. We drove here from Milan yesterday. For dinner, we had extremely delicious seafood at an "at-home" restaurant - 'Restrante Arfled'. It became one of my best restaurants in Italy. We are going to Portofino (my dream), and get to Cote D'Azure in France today. The photos on this card are quite old-fashioned, but it is not old-fashioned here! I love Italy. Teruki
