Noisy little boys - after reading The Canterville Ghost

There are two noisy little boys in the story; are they familiar?

Write about any noisy young children you know, and why you like (or don't like) them.

I have a niece and a nephew. As my older sister's house is near my living place, I often go to her house and stay with her, the niece
and the nephew. Since they were very little, they always talk to me at the same time or try to talk to me while another one is talking with me. As they were talking to me continuously even if another one still talk with me, I always admonished them that they have to talk to me one by one and listen the talk of another one. Now they are 13 years-old and 11 years-old but sometimes still keep me crazy. However, I like to talk with them as I can feel they have been growing by what they talk. Especially for the niece is very talkative, she often call me or LINE me to talk about her friends, schools and her parents.

Cultural differences - after reading The Canterville Ghost

The Americans in this story are very different to the British.
How are Americans different to people from your country?

One of our main customers for electric shaver is American’s company. I often communicate with them by e-mail and a few times to meet them in a year. Whenever I go to America, I am surprised two points on the difference between Americans and Japanese.

One thing is the volume of meal. I love steak and pizza, but everything is too big for me to eat up. The cups for drinks are also big. I never drunk it up. Americans, however, can eat and drink up. I can understand why their body is very big.

The other thing is the endurance of cold. I feel that Americans are very tough even if it is very cold. I cannot stay in the room without outerwear, but Americans wear half sleeve shirt. I also saw some Americans who visited Japan wear half sleeve shirt even if it was winter.

Honestly, I don’t want to live in America as it is not comfortable on the meal and temperature. I, however, like to visit America and enjoy talking with Americans and finding the difference between America and Japan.

Canterville Ghost - after reading, noisy boys!

It's definitely my son. He is four years old now and doesn't stay still as same as all the other boys in the same
age. He likes playing outside even if it i freezy cold. In December, my familiy go to the park to see the beautiful Christmas light in the evening. He got excited and kept running around the park. My husband and I tried to take his picture in the light, but our camera couldn't capture him as he moved too fast. Sometimes he doesn't listen to us, but I like him so much as he always make me happy.

After reading The Canterville Ghost - cultural comparisons Americans & Japanese

The Americans in this story are very different to the British.
How are Americans different to people from your country?

I think there are many difference between Japanese and Americans. For example looks, culture and religion…etc.

I think Americans are franker than Japanese. Many Japanese don’t good at saying their true feeling to others, I think. In Japan, sometimes it is better hiding the true. We have the custom to talk modest. So we are not used to saying true feeling. But this may confused other country people.

I think Japanese are shyer than Americans. In Japan, people don’t talk to next man/woman when they are in the plane or train. But sometimes Americans are talk to next man/woman who haven’t meet before. When I took a train before, the next man who is from America talked to me. And we talked from Matsumoto to Nagoya in English. I couldn’t speak English well, but he had a dictionary, so we used dictionary and talked. It was fun.

I think Americans have more interesting idea for an entertainment. Maybe Japanese think whether it will be dangerous, first. But Americans do the first. Snowboarding, American football… I think many race of people live in America so many culture mixed and new entertainments and sports were appeared.

Canterville Ghost: spooky after reading!

Write about the spookiest place you have ever been to, or the spookiest experience in your life?

This is the story when I went for a drink with my friends last Bon vacation. I went to the bar by train that day because the bar is far from my house. But after drinking with my friends, I missed the last train of the day because I wanted to drink with my friend later. So I came home by taxi after drinking. Since I wanted to save money, I got off at the earlier station than the one near my house. And I walked from there to my house.

But the way was very dark and lonely without houses and car running. On the way, suddenly I was surrounded by the noisy lap sound that we could hear like someone beat the guardrail. Of course, there should not be anyone exactly. I wondered if animals like a bird beat the guardrail. (even if birds, too big noise) Then, I stopped and shouted with loud voice regardless of midnight, and the lap sound stopped.
I got relieved and started to walk again. At just that time, I could see a bunch of flowers offered for someone near my foot. I found what it means and got scare and sober. I ran away at once.

This is my spookiest experience. This might be just accident, but the timing I could hear lap sound and found a bunch of flowers was too good. I was very surprised at this experience.

**Home work**
Q1.Which is favorite story?

My favorite story is “THE MODEL MILLIONAIRE”.

Q2. Why?

Because the main character is very honest man and this is a story with a happy ending by his honesty.
He is a hard worker but he is poor. Therefore he can not get married his girlfriend.
One day he met a beggar in Alan’s studio. Although he need money and he gave the old beggar all his money. He does not know that the beggar actually is a rich man. Later the beggar gave a check for ten thousand pounds as a wedding present.

Q3. What did you like about the main characters?

Although he is poor, he is very kindly and honest man.

Q4. Who would you cast in it if you made a film?

I would like to cast the beggar “Baron”. Because I am interested his life after he met Hughie.

The Canterville Ghost (and other stories)

At the first I guessed this story was frightening and hoped so, but not freighting at all. The Ghost was so poor and misery guy. He couldn't frightened all Otis's family and was helped to go to heaven by the daughter who lived in the house. The children will enjoy this funny story.

I spent 3 hours to read this book. It was not easy for me to read the book. I try to read the next book faster than this book.

The Canterville ghost and Other Stories

There are three stories.

The first is the story of the Canterville ghost. The Otis family bought the residence of Canterville that the ghost lived. This family didn't fear the ghost at all though the ghost tried to frighten the family. On the contrary, the family tried to frighten the ghost.

The first half of the story was interesting in the comedy though this story was a horror story judging from the title and the picture of the cover. In the latter half of the story, the sad past of the ghost knows and moved to tears. I think impression was large in the gap because the first half part was a comedy.

The image of the American who saw from the British found out and they were interesting.

The other two stories were strange and interesting, too.

The Canterville Ghost and Other Stories

There are three stories in this collection.

The first is about a comical but pitiful ghost, who lives in the Canterville for three hundreds years. He has not been dead peacefully, so he appears to frighten people in this house. However, only some rich Americans, Otis and his family aren't afraid, and they frighten the ghost. They treat him with a sneer. The ghost feels very unhappy. At last, the daughter helps the ghost kindly, so he could be dead peacefully. This part is touching.

The second is a very short story. There is a very good looking and kind gentleman. He has many friends. He wants to marry, but unfortunately he is poor. The girlfriend’s father tells him “If you want to marry with my daughter, make one thousand pounds”. However, he gets one thousand pounds unexpectedly. This story is the most favourite for me in this book.

The last story is about a man’s fate. He has a plan to get married. A palmist reads the man’s fortune at a party that he would kill someone. He believes his fate that the palmist told him. He decides to make his own future that he won't marry with fiancée until he will kill someone. He fails to kill two people, but at last he succeeds in killing one person. He finally get married then he feel very happy to have made his own future.

The Canterville Ghost

There are three stories in the book. I think the most interesting story was the Load Arthur Savile's Crime. There are strange stories. They are sad and they also funny.

1.The Canterville Ghost : It is sad because The ghost had lived in Cantervill Chase for three hundred years. He murdered his wife. Then his wife's brother shut him in a room. He starved to death.

It is funny because The ghost tried to frighten The Otis family but they was not afraid of the ghost completely. And they helped the ghost finally.

2.The Model Millionaire: It is sad because Hughie Erskine wanted to marry Laura Merton but he had no money. It is funny because Hughie Erskine gave one pound to a beggar. The beggar was super rich man. He present a cheque for ten thousand pounds. Hughie Erskine could marry Laura Merton.

3.Lord Arthur Savil's Crime: It is sad because Mr Podgers of palmist was dead finally. It is funny because Lord Arthur had believed the palmist and he decided to kill someone He challenged to kill someone but he missed it. Last,he succeed in killing. It was Mr Podgers of palmist.

THE CANTERVILLE GHOST

The Otis family all write letters to people who live in America. They each write about the Canterville Ghost. Write a letter. For example, write a letter from Mrs Otis to her sister.

Hi my sister.
I'm Otis. Long time no see.

I want to inform you the ghost of my house. A ghost lives in my house. He had murdered his wife three hundred years ago.

He tried to frighten my family, but we weren't afraid of him. He is not terrible for us. We are interested in him. He was angry for us because we laughed him. We enjoy living with him.

Have you ever seen a ghost? If you didn't have seen a ghost, let's come my home and I introduce him to you.
