Saturday - bad day for Wednesday

Everyone will know I shout for Manchester United, and generally can't stand London clubs, starting with Arsenal. With the power of the Premier League it is very hard to follow clubs lower down the divisions or ever see them on TV.

Badge of Sheffield WednesdayMy hometown team (actually there are two) Sheffield Wednesday (the other one is Sheffield United) was relegated last weekend to the First Division from the Football League Championship. This will be the third time in the club's history to grace England's third division (most recently there in 2003-5) & hopefully an even quicker return.

The club has a lot of financial worries, despite being 'a big club', but it is loyally supported & in Hillsborough has a stadium many clubs envy. The Owls have had a very tough time since dropping out of the Premier League in 2000, and since then the Steel City's banner has been carried higher by The Blades. There was some disgraceful aggro after the draw with Crystal Palace which condemned The Owls to the drop.

Fingers crossed some sensible management can get the blue half of the city back where it belongs. Consolation is that Grimsby Town are even lower down the leagues!
